FORMER England netball captain Tracey Neville passed on tips from the top during a skills workshop in York.
Neville, the sister of former England footballing duo Gary and Phil, put 20 fifth and sixth form pupils through their paces at St Peter’s School.
Leeds Met Carnegie’s Neville, who coaches the England Under-17 team, was capped 74 times by England and twice represented her country at the Commonwealth Games.
The workshop focused on game strategies and centre court attacking play and the St Peter’s pupils will be hoping to put their coaching into practice in their first match of the season against Barnard Castle today.
“This is the first time that we have welcomed a visiting netball coach of this standing,” said a member of the school’s PE department. “We’re hoping that the session will kick-start our season by giving the teams a better understanding of strategies. “We are already doing well in the region, and we’re aiming to increase our competitiveness and push through to national level. “Tracey’s session will be a real inspiration to the girls, and I’m sure the work we put in will make a real difference at forthcoming matches.”
