BOWLS is a game for all ages in York.

New Earswick Indoor Bowls Club have welcomed their youngest member – six-year-old Felicity Bell.

Felicity bowls with her nine-year-old brother, Alex, after they were introduced to the Huntington Road club by their grandparents, long-standing bowlers Iris and Graham Lockwood.

The Bell brother and sister team recently met up with John Moses, the club’s oldest bowler at 96, to get a few tips on how to play the game.

Felicity and Alex will both be joining the new After School Club, which gets under way at Huntington Road on Tuesday, March 2, between 4pm and 5pm.

Club manager Andy Webster said: “We have been working with Huntington School and their feeder schools, providing taster sessions to more than 200 pupils during school lessons.

“We hope to expand this partnership by involving Joseph Rowntree, and their feeder schools, and Applefields in similar sessions.

“The natural progression is to provide an After School Club at which those children who want to enjoy the game in a fun way can play regularly. “The After School Club will initially be open to children aged between six and 14 as places will be limited.”

For total beginners, there will be a free taster session during the half-term holiday on Tuesday, February 22, between 12.30pm and 4.30pm.

Webster added: “Parents are encouraged to drop in with their children and give it a try too if they want, to see what the club has to offer.”

Any adults interested in taking up the game are encouraged to attend the Friday coaching sessions between 6pm and 8pm. Further details are available by phoning Webster on 01904 750230 or by visiting the club website www.newearswickibc.co.uk
