YORK climber Hamish McArthur is in top form as he counts down to the British Youth Open.
The Open in Sheffield on November 29 is a selection competition for the 2015 British climbing team and 11-year-old McArthur is hoping to retain his place.
The Joseph Rowntree School pupil, currently the youngest member of the British team, underlined his form by winning the Under-14 British Lead Climbing Championships in Sheffield.
In the male ‘C’ category, McArthur topped the podium ahead of runner-up Sam Bullock and third-placed Ollie Graham.
McArthur is based at Red Goat Climbing Centre in Layerthorpe, York, and is sponsored by Leeds-based software firm Tracsis. He recently received a grant from the Active York Fund for the Gifted.
