YORK City Baths Club swimmers plundered the Top Club trophy at the Rotherham Metro gala at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.

The York squad of 28 girls and 12 boys turned in superb performances, with some inspired individual swims and a high percentage of personal best performances.

Ten-year-olds Megan Kirkman and Beth Gibbons gained North-East regional qualifying times in the 100 metres breaststroke and butterfly respectively.

That magnificent achievement was coupled with two speeding tickets and a ‘B’ grade silver medal in the 50 metres backstroke for Kirkman and three speeding tickets and an ‘A’ grade bronze medal in the 50m backstroke for Gibbons.

With a total of 154 pbs and four newly-recognised ASA times out of the 192 swims entered and 22 swimmers recording a 100 per cent pb success rate, the squad secured the title.

Head coach Mark Sheldrick said: “I am absolutely delighted, not only with the team’s performance but by how professional they were.”
