A STORMING five-star show was made by City of York Athletic Club’s Lucy Hadaway.

She powered to the gold medal in the pentathlon event in the Yorkshire under-15s championships staged at Cleckheaton.

The triumph was one of the most emphatic at the meeting with Hadaway posting no fewer than four personal bests in the energy-sapping discipline which comprises the 75 metres hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot putt and 800 metres.

Hadaway’s quartet of new best performances were notched in the shot putt, hurdles and 800m as well as her new highest pentathlon total of 3,041 points.

There was further success for CYAC at Cleckheaton.

Club-mate Alice Linekar took the silver medal, while Hadaway’s training partner Rhea Southcott, from Leeds, took the bronze.

Hadaway’s fine form followed on from a bronze-winning performance in the long jump at the England individual events at Bedford, where York team-mate Alex Botterill bagged the silver medal in the 800m.

Hadaway and Linekar’s next outing is in the English Schools’ combined team event at Boston.

Alongside Megan Sanders and Samantha Baker-Jones, they will be representing North Yorkshire.
