MOTORCYCLIST Josh Harland is celebrating Superbike success.

The 20-year-old Wigginton racer won the seventh round of the European Junior Cup at Jerez, in Spain, earlier in the month.

A track of which Harland, who recovered from a broken neck at Donnington in 2012 to get back on his bike, is a self-confessed fan, he posted the third-fastest qualifying time in the opening session before dropping back to fourth following the second session.

Harland eventually pushed himself into top spot as the race got into gear but the battle for victory became intense as the final laps approached.

“I was able to maintain my position in the front group starting the last lap, but was passed in the slipstream by another rider,” he said. “I went into the final section of the track in second position with a group of three riders all trying to dive up the inside.

“I was able to hold my position around the outside while the riders on the inside slightly held each other up. I came out of the turn close to first place within the slipstream heading to the line. I had good drive and was able to time my run pulling out of the slipstream perfectly, crossing the line and winning by 0.014 of a second.

“It feels amazing to again win a race in the European Junior Cup. I felt like I was one of the strongest riders all weekend, and pushed myself 100 per cent every lap.”

Harland now heads into the final round, at Magny Cour, in fifth place in the championship - needing to bridge an eight-point gap to climb into a podium place.
