MEGAN KIRKMAN pouched five medals as York City Baths Club members competed in the Kingston-upon- Hull Swimming Club end of season gala.

The Minster city club sent 26 swimmers from their development, county and regional training squads to the competition at Ennerdale Leisure Centre.

Nine-year-old Kirkman had an exceptional gala, winning gold medals in the 100 metres individual medley, 50m breaststroke and 50m butterfly, plus silver in the 50m freestyle and bronze in the 50m backstroke.

She also notched an impressive four short course personal best times.

Meanwhile, 14-year-olds Sam Whittaker and Anna Adams gained qualifying times for prestigious events.

Whittaker will represent York City Baths Club at the ASANER Meet in the 50m breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke, as well as the 100m freestyle and backstroke at the Winter Yorkshires.

Adams will compete at the Winter Yorkshires in the 100m freestyle event.

The pair achieved an impressive 100 per cent PB record out of their entered events, with Whittaker also earning a silver medal in the 50m breaststroke and bronze medals in the 100m breaststroke and 50m butterfly.

Whittaker is ranked third-fastest by the ASA in the 50m breaststroke for his age group in the region, and has top 20 places in butterfly and backstroke.
