York squash starlet Poppie Jaram has become the youngest ever recipient of the Ladies Club Championships at Dunnington, winning the event at just the age of 13 years old.

Poppie, who is 16th in Girl’s Under 15s England rankings, has continued her success after two recent victories in the Girls Under 13 Championship events at the Chapel Allerton Open and Merseyside Open, with the latter being held in Liverpool. The Acomb star had a tough contest against Lucy Soulby from Lincolnshire in the semi final of the Chapel Allerton Open, eventually edging her opponent to a 3-2 victory despite having had several match points in the fourth game of the tie. There was light work in the final, when she took on Aisha Forster from Hull to win 3-0 and lift the trophy.

In the Merseyside Open the following weekend, Jaram took on the Welsh number one Layna Beattie in the final and although she lost the first two games of the best of five contest, she fought her way back into the match to win three games on the trot and win her second successive title with a 3-2 win.

With the help of club coach Gary Crossland, Jaram has also forced her way into playing for the Dunnington ladies first team in Division One of the York & District League.
