KNAVESMIRE were the winners of the 2014 Peter Feasby Annual Celebration Hockey Tournament.
A total of 32 York primary schools entered the tournament, which is held in memory of former Robert Wilkinson head teacher Peter Feasby, who died aged 48 in 2004.
Knavesmire Primary beat Wheldrake 1-0 in the final of the competition, organised superbly by Adam Cooper from Knavesmire.
In the semi-finals, Wheldrake overcame Lakeside and Knavesmire defeated Headlands.
A tournament spokesman said: “There was some good hockey played during the three qualifying rounds with ten teams contesting the final round at Huntington School.
“It was good to see some smaller schools such as Rufforth and Wheldrake reaching the final round and battling hard against bigger schools such as Copmanthorpe and Hempland.
“The tournament was well supported by parents who appreciated the efforts and skills shown by the children – Wheldrake’s noisy support matched the skill of their team.”
The organisers hailed the support of the University of York sports centre, York High School/Energise, Canon Lee School and Huntington School for making their all-weather pitches available either free or for discounted rates.
