NATIONAL exposure awaits for Bootham School footballing duo Will Stevens and Sam Harrison.

The two youngsters have won places in the North East Regional Independent Schools Football Association’s under-13s team and will represent the region at a national competition in April.

Andy Bell, Bootham’s head of boys’ PE, said: “The pair have done exceptionally well against stiff opposition and are the only boys from York in the squad. “They are both very excited about the national match coming up in the spring.”

Meanwhile, Bootham brother and sister, James and Georgia Haynes scored a family double victory at the Yorkshire epee fencing competition.

Georgia, 13, won the girls’ U14s competition, while 14-year-old James came first in the men’s junior section.

Alison Moreland, director of sport at Bootham, said: “It is great news for both of them and for James in particular who at aged only 14 won the open age men’s junior group against a strong field of adult competitors.”
