IT was third time lucky for York RUFC under-16s as they beat arch-rivals Middlesbrough 32-21 to lift the Yorkshire Cup.

York’s triumph at West Park Leeds saw them gain revenge for their final defeats to Boro in the last two years.

Middlesbrough were first to score, but York equalised with a fine individual try from Arron Johnson. York then took control with a try from Liam Hessay and a hat-trick by Daniel Tai.

Man of the match was York scrum-half Jake Green.

Coach Ian Thomson said: “It was a fantastic result and testament to the hard work that this group of boys have put in over the last three years.”
