Heworth under-17s success at Hull Dockers

Heworth ARLC under-17s got back to winning ways after back-to-back defeats with a fine 32-22 success at high-flying Hull Dockers.

The York side put their recent under-par performances behind them in an almost error-free display in possession.

Dockers used their size by playing the game down the middle but the Villagers refused to be intimidated, with man-of-the-match Jason Smith pulling off a string of tackles. Tom Cornforth also had his best game for the club.

Josh Poulter, together with David Hayes, directed the team around the pitch and both troubled the Hull defence with the ball. Harry Fogg also made good yards when he came off the bench.

Heworth’s confidence – aided by Alex Clough’s steadfast game at full-back – grew as the game progressed and their pace proved a potent force as Danny Simpson and Fraser West had great games.

Adam Lovett scored two tries.

Selby Warriors are seeking players for their new U16s team who will play in the summer months.

The side will be coached by Brayton College PE teacher Todd Wain. Anyone interested in playing for or sponsoring the team can phone 07585 801152.

Meanwhile, York Acorn’s prolific U15s team have finally been moved up a division in the Yorkshire Junior League.

The team, who won 17 of their 18 games last season as U14s, have been lifted to division three.
