YORK RUFC Under-11s were successful in their own Clifton Park festival.

The youngsters overcame Wharfedale in the final after a competition which included meeting teams from Alnwick, Lymm, Malton, Otley, West Park Leeds and Harrogate in the group stages.

The York U12s, meanwhile, almost went all the way, losing to Lymm 5-0 in the final.

Goole beat Otley 8-7 in the U8s final, while York Wasps and York Bees were among ten teams that took part in the U7s tournament. That was won by West Park ‘A’, who defeated Sandal in the final.

More than 800 players took part in the event overall, which saw teams from U7s to U12s compete. Organisers said the competition was of a very high standard.

The event was attended by new England head coach Stuart Lancaster, whose daughter was playing for the West Park Leeds U12s’ outfit.
