FOR the fourth year in succession Terrington Hall School retained the trophy at its under-13 XV-a-side rugby union tournament for local schools.

Terrington prevailed in the seventh year the event has been held having beaten Malton School 10-0, Ryedale School 10-0, Lady Lumley’s 12-0 and Easingwold School 17-0.

Strong performances by Lady Lumley’s and Malton School placed them second equal.

Said Mark Langley, Terrington Hall’s director of sport: ‘It was a pleasure to see the boys’ level of commitment and skill rise during the course of the afternoon.

"There were some very tight encounters, Malton School’s and Lady Lumley’s 7-7 draw proving especially exciting.

"The tournament provides a tremendous start for the rugby season and it has been a pleasure to host."

Terrington Hall’s headmaster Jon Glen said: ‘Since this tournament was inaugurated seven years ago, the standard of play from the schools present has improved across the board and beyond recognition.

"I would like applaud the coaches for what they have achieved for rugby within their schools.’
