YORK Rugby Union Club boasts one of the biggest youth sections in the north of England - but there’s always room for more.

Boys and girls aged from six to 16 are encouraged to try the sport when the section’s season kicks off with training at the York club’s Clifton Park base on Sunday, September 7. That session will be for age groups from under-six through to U12.

The U13 to U16 squads are already in training and start their matches on the same date.

Last season the club had more than 300 children taking part in matches, festivals and cup competitions across the north of England.

Numerous festivals were won, while two squads reached their respective Yorkshire Cup finals.

A number of players also advanced to represent the club at both district and county level.

With the England women’s team recently winning the World Cup and the men’s World Cup finals being hosted in England next year, this is an exciting time for rugby union and a great time to get involved, said junior fixtures secretary John Atkin.
