POCKLINGTON RUFC’s popular annual rugby union summer school is being held on Thursday, August 14 and Friday, August 15 for boys and girls aged from seven to 14.

The summer school will be at Percy Road from 10am to 4pm on both days.

The event has been a key part of the summer programme for several years, and this year’s school will be aiming for two days of fun activities that will give newcomers a taster for the game and also build the skills of established players.

England international Rob Webber has added his support to the event.

The former Pocklington mini rugby player recalled taking his first steps on the road to an international career by attending one of the club’s early summer schools in the 1990s.

He he has sent some of his England training gear as a prize to the best trainer at the end of the two days.

The event is being run by a team of qualified coaches and helpers that includes coaches and development officers from the club’s junior section, senior players and guest coaches.

The summer school costs £15 per day.

Participants will need boots and trainers, gum shield and any other protective clothing, plus a packed lunch.

Individuals can bring their own drinks, but drinks will also be provided through the day.

Anyone is welcome, including youngsters who are already at local clubs and those who have never played the game but want to give rugby union a try.
