GIRLS rugby league is booming at Huntington School as the Year 9 team celebrate being crowned champions of a new Leedsbased competition.
The York pupils won the Year 10 league, which was organised by the Leeds Rugby Foundation and Leeds Rhinos.
Teacher Shane Daniel said: “This marks the first of what will hopefully be many more pieces of silverware that this team and Huntington’s many other age groups will be able to bring home.
“Girls rugby is booming at Huntington and it is expected that there will be five year groups playing next year, all following on from the success of our inaugural girls team, who qualified for two regional finals and two national festivals.
“The girls have worked exceptionally hard this season, despite a number of setbacks, and are an absolute credit to their school and themselves.
“We are already looking forward to what the girls could achieve next season.”
