UNBEATEN York Acorn Under-16s rose to fourth in the Yorkshire Junior League division three with three games in hand after a 54-14 win over Selby Warriors U16s.

Acorn started well and quickly went ahead on the scoreboard as good ball work put Mathew Downes in at the corner, before Jack Wyard and Ryan Woodcock also crossed.

Selby replied with a solo effort but William Atkins raced in from a great ball by man-of-the-match Wyard to up the lead by half-time.

Matthew Chilton danced through before Downes bagged his second try and prop Harry Brummit smashed through with an impressive solo effort from half-way.

Further tries by Bradley Winter and Ryan Johnson sealed victory.

Table-toppers New Earswick All Blacks U12s won 26-6 at Ovenden to stay unbeaten in Yorkshire Junior League division four.

The prolific Ritesh Gurung scored in the game’s first set and Lewis Young ran the home defence ragged as he zipped through.

Ovenden replied to make it 10-6 at half-time but after tries by man-of-the-match Taylor McDonough, who had his best game to date, and Gurung, with his second, the All Blacks began to throw the ball around confidently.

Owen Bassett received the ball from a good flurry of passes and flew in from half-way before the in-form Dan Cannon drew two men, dummied superbly and cut inside to score and take the magic moment gong.

Sam Briggs added three goals. Joshua Addison, top tackler Luke Prenty and the full pack of forwards stood out.

Ethan Sutcliffe and Kai Witty controlled the game, moving the ball around well, as York Acorn U10s got back to winning ways against Guiseley.

Great passing throughout the team brought first-half tries from Kai Witty, Matty Hotchin, Shane Walker and Sutcliffe, and the second half brought more of the same, with tries coming from Parka Lucas, Josh Cook, Hotchin, Walker and Sutcliffe.

Heworth U9s had to switch their home fixture with Brotherton to the Bulldogs’ ground but continued to impress.

The whole team was named coaches’ men of the match after a near faultless display brought some open rugby and ten tries in the sun.

Keane Brough was the parents’ man of the match and for the second week running took the magic moment accolade for a great offload which set up a try. He also scored himself after a jinking run.

Reegan Brough was the opposition’s choice of top player for some great tackling, with Lucas Burden gaining the top tackler award to go with a try. Charley Clarke and Harry Brown were the most improved, with the latter scoring a try.

Ben Young, who made some great runs, and Oliver Pratt bagged braces, with Kian Ogilvie, George Bradley-Consett and Harvey Watson also scoring. Heworth U8s met Siddal in another close encounter.

The in-form Harrison Barker grabbed the first of his two tries early on but Siddal fought back to level despite strong defence from Harvey Barker, Adam Hodgson and Freddie Wilson.

Further tries from Callum Costanzo and, with a long-range effort, Thomas Hardy were not enough for Heworth to take the spoils as Siddal pulled away late in the game.

Hodgson and Harrison Barker were the men of the match while Wilson and Harvey Barker also stood out.
