SUCCESS has come at the double for Ripon Grammar School after winning two regional finals in the White Rose Rugby series.

Both the under-13s and U14s squads have ended their respective seasons with a trophy apiece.

The U13s were undefeated in their local cluster matches to qualify for a finals tournament played at Otley.

In the final, the try-scorers were: Ted Wainwright, Oliver Bowett and Ben Payette, and joint men of the match were Ted Wainwright and Will Langford. In addition, the squad won the Yorkshire Cup last year and have not lost a single match in two seasons.

More than 50 teams started in the U14s competition, but they overcame Brighouse with a 17-12 victory in the final, to bring the White Rose trophy back to Ripon for the third time in three years.

Captain James Willis said: “There’s a lot of character in our squad and we work really well as a team.”

Coach and head of boys’ PE, Mike Garvey said: “The RFU considered us to be one of the best teams and invited us to face Brighouse in the final. It’s fantastic this team have now won the competition three years in a row.”

It has been a good season all round at Ripon Grammar School as the U12s finished third in their regional finals, while the U18s were runners-up in the final of the Yorkshire Cup.
