IN-FORM New Earswick All Blacks Under-12s won their eighth Yorkshire Junior League game on the trot by beating Meltham 16-6.

Both sides completed sets, but the York side defended with a high intensity throughout and pushed the stronger to get the upper hand.

It paid off when a nice high bomb from Lewis Young saw speedy winger Owen Bassett collect the ball and twist over the whitewash.

Just before half-time, try-scoring machine Ritesh Gurung smashed through four or five opponents to reach the line. Sam Briggs' conversion made it 10-0 at half-time.

Meltham's new boy, William Darbyshire, crossed and converted to cut the deficit to 10-6, and the second half became an end-to-end affair.

Victory was sealed late on when Gurung, the parents' player of the match, hit an inside ball and raced 40 metres with two defenders hanging off him. Briggs converted.

Luke Prenty was the top tackler for the eighth game in succession, and Briggs was named the most improved player due to his defensive efforts, while the magic moment award went to Young for the kick that led to the opening try. The player of the match was Owen Bassett due to his superb work-rate.

Heworth U10s, playing at Methley, struggled in the first half against a stronger side but improved in the second, with good defending from top tackler Oliver Pratt and parents' man-of-the-match Jay Richards. Eden Martin, back in the team, was the coaches' man of the match, and Jamaal Tokalau made a notable contribution.

Heworth U8s continued their good run with a 9-4 win against Meltham.

Coaches' man-of-the-match Callum Costanzo grabbed four tries and parents' man-of-the-match Thomas Hardy two, with the impressive Ellis Cochrane, Freddie Wilson and Dan Clarke also crossing.

Theo Edson was top tackler and Ellis Southerington the most improved.
