YORK RUFC Under-13s lifted the trophy at Pocklington’s junior seven-a-side rugby union tournament.

Teams from across Yorkshire and the North East descended on Percy Road for the Pocklington Junior Charity Sevens, sponsored by Agriyork 400 and in aid of Martin House Children’s Hospice.

It was a day full of sevens rugby union at under-13s, U14s and U15s age levels, with all three competitions keenly contested.

After the group stages in the morning, the top sides went through to the afternoon semifinals and finals, producing a string of cliffhangers.

At U13s, Castleford put out tournament hosts Pocklington 15-5 in the first semi-final, followed by York edging Ripon by a single score 15-10.

The final was another end to end encounter, with York prevailing 20-10.

The U14s semi-final ties saw Goole overcome West Park 10-5, while Doncaster disposed of Selby 15-5.

Doncaster then went on to defeat Goole 20-10 in the final.

The U15s competition saw some of Yorkshire’s best teams reach the semi-final stages, where Doncaster beat Selby 25-5, then West Park defeated Pocklington 35-5.

A quality final ended the day’s action, with West Park taking the trophy after a 20-10 win over Doncaster.
