FESTIVAL fever is spurring on York RUFC under-7s. The youngsters played well at the Selby Festival last month and reached the semi-finals stages of their own York Festival, before shining at the Driffield Festival.

The under-7s squad includes Callum Aitken, Toby Atkin, Matthew Bunter, Aiden Doeg, Toby Finch, Zak Hutton, Callum Ireland, Roman Lofthouse, Theo Roberts, Alfie Rowntree, Ralph Schofield and William White.

All the boys played positive attacking rugby on their latest outing at Driffield, with a minimum of five tries scored in every game. The defending was also solid, with well positioned players cutting off the opposition or driving them into touch.

York fielded two U7s teams and played games against Selby, Pocklington, Scunthorpe, Beverley, Driffield and Doncaster.

At their own festival at Clifton Park, the youngsters played Selby, Otley and Harrogate en route to the last four, where they bowed out to eventual winners Hull Ionians.

The season concludes with the annual tour later this month, followed by a presentation day on Sunday, May 4.
