POCKLINGTON RUFC Under-14s swept to a decisive 34-10 victory over York at Percy Road.

They grabbed an early lead through centre Seb Bijster and the backs on both teams revelled in the open spaces of the main pitch.

York stayed in touch with a try of their own but the longer the game went on the more the incisive home backs came to the fore.

Bijster grabbed another firsthalf touchdown, Harry Lamb Kirk also went in for a brace of tries, while Matt Childs and Callum Mooney both crossed, with James Harrison adding two conversions.

York U16s gained revenge in the next game, though, when they beat Pocklington 33-5.

The young Clifton Parkers won better possession and used it well to create overlaps out wide and pull clear.

Pocklington’s best spell came early in the second half when they scored their only try through David Bird and came close on another couple of occasions.

Despite the defeat the young East Yorkshire side were well served by their back row of Nathan Smith, Charlie Whittingham and Charles Taylor, while backs Lewis Wilson and Nathan Saltmer ran strongly.

Earlier, Pock U19 Colts completed a Yorkshire League double over York Colts with a 50-12 home success.

Pocklington’s strike runners had too much firepower for a young York side. With the wind, they built up a 29-0 interval lead with touchdowns by back-row Josh Britton (2), wings Peter Axup and Matty Springett and a try and two conversions from flyhalf Dan Elliot.

It was always going to be a tough ask for York to get back on terms when they had the elements but they pulled two tries and a conversion back early in the second half to make it 29-12.

Any York thoughts of further pegging Pocklington back were dashed by the free-running home backs.

A series of raids brought three tries from deep in their own half by Springett, centre Aaron Tait and replacement wing Sam Beales. Elliot kicked three more conversions.
