JOSH THOMPSON touched down four times to help York Acorn ARLC snatch a thrilling 30-30 draw with Featherstone Lions in the Yorkshire Youth Premiership.

Thompson’s fourth touch down levelled the scores with ten minutes remaining, but defences were on top in a tense climax to the game.

The opening ten minutes was all Acorn, with Jordan Myres scoring after collecting an offload from Reef Wilson and then Thompson breaking the defence after some strong work from Harry Bromwich.

Featherstone responded with two quick tries, but the Blue and Golds stayed in control with a second score from Thompson, collecting a crossfield kick by Ash Robson.

Featherstone added two tries before half-time to lead 18-16.

The Lions added another six-pointer in the first minute of the second half.

Thompson’s hat-trick try was followed by a score for Bromwich, who powered through to regain the lead for Acorn.

On 55 minutes, they fell behind again, but Thompson’s late score sealed the tie.

Myres was top tackler and a constant threat in attack, while Lewis Lord worked hard and Charlie Settle had a strong game.

Wilson shone on his return from injury and Ben Limbert made an impact off the bench.

Although Thompson was superb, the man of the match award went to captain Bromwich.

The previous week, Acorn were 24-12 winners at Oulton Raiders.

Settle opened the scoring and there were two tries apiece for Thompson and Jake Calam. Calam added two conversions.
