YORK College rugby league team dug deep to bag the first victory of their Yorkshire Colleges premier league campaign by beating Leeds College of Building Hawks 32-20.

Having succumbed to Huddersfield College in their first game of the season, the new-look York outfit, coached by York City Knights development chief Jack Stearman, bounced back in style.

York conceded a soft early try before a strong effort from man-ofthe- match Joe Deighton, plus the first of his four goals, edged York ahead.

Leeds, coached by Hunslet Hawks boss Barry Eaton, replied before a flowing move from left to right saw York first year Brad Thompson dance through.

Leeds had a man sent off for stamping and York quickly made them pay thanks to a strong run from Ben Pulleyn.

The Hawks pulled back to within two points early in the second half, and again replied, benefiting from a spate of penalties, after a strong Lewis Robins finish had seemingly settled York down.

However, the home team stayed strong for the remainder of the match and a second Deighton try, followed by a late Will Farley score, sealed victory
