Rawcliffe on brink of U19 coronation
9:39am Saturday 28th April 2012 in Junior football By Bob Stuart
Rawcliffe are poised to be crowned York FA Under-19s Football League champions.
The league leaders were six points clear of second-placed Harrogate Town with two games remaining, and they boasted a 51-goal advantage in the goal difference stakes.
Rawcliffe moved nearer to the title with a 5-1 home victory over third-placed Wigginton Grasshoppers, although Harrogate Town’s 4-1 win at Elvington Harriers kept them in the hunt.
Grasshoppers managed back-to-back victories over Thorpe United – 4-1 at home and 3-0 away – to stay a point ahead of fourth-placed Harrogate Railway.
Strensall are doomed to finish bottom after a 12-1 reverse against Elvington, who have finished their fixtures.
After a host of scheduled midweek games, the season is due to end with the final round of fixtures tomorrow.
