DEBUTANT Dan McCarthy bagged a brace as Thorpe United under-16s brushed aside Wrenthorpe Rangers 5-1.

Corey Littlefield also netted twice after Richard Buckthorpe had earlier opened the scoring for United.

In the first half, Ben Clowes and Shaun Heselwood went close before striker Buckthorpe broke the deadlock from man of the match Matthew Webster’s through ball.

At the other end, Thorpe keeper Alex Ward tipped over a well-struck shot but his scuffed clearance saw the hosts equalise. Good interplay from James Arnold and Dominik Stankiwicz then saw a ball whipped in for Buckthorpe who headed wide.

The second period was only minutes old when McCarthy struck twice. First, he got ahead of his marker to slot home from Littlefield’s cross. His second was almost a carbon copy, with Arnold this time supplying the delivery.

Littlefield added a superb free-kick, finding the top corner from 18 yards.

David Melling’s persistence went on to create space for Stankiwicz who played in Littlefield with the striker finding room to get his second.
