SYD Greening bagged a brace as Wilberfoss under-15s continued their unbeaten start to the City of York Girls’ League season with a 2-0 victory over Heslerton.

Foss started brightly with Jess Willis winning the first corner of the game on four minutes following a forceful run and shot. Alice Ella then snuffed out an attack at the other end and Georgina Stanton made a good save.

A fierce shot from Alex Harvey called the Heslerton keeper into action on 15 minutes and player-of-the-match Poppy Clancey’s spectacular volley flashed narrowly wide of the left-hand post.

Ellie Whytock went on to have a header from Emma Nelson’s cross kept out before the deadlock was eventually broken when Greening finished well after midfielder Jess Alston won the ball just inside the penalty area.

In the second half, Ellie Fitzmaurice’s 20-yard run out of defence led to a powerful Ellie Parkin drive that was saved, while good defending by Olivia Cant kept Foss in front. Greening sealed matters, though, when she ran on to midfielder Kirsten Wright’s through ball.
