YORK Schoolboy under-15s crashed out of the English Schools’ FA National Cup following a 6-3 defeat at Chester-le-Street & Washington.

The visitors led 2-1 at half-time following Max Tweddle and Dan Davison strikes but could not sustain their efforts after the break. York had earlier got off to the worst possible start when the hosts converted a first-minute penalty, awarded for a push in the area.

Centre-backs Joe Kilvington and David Barber went on to stand up to pressure caused by long balls up to the North-East side’s pacy forwards, as Alex McMillan shot wide and then forced a save at the other end with his speed taking him clear of the defenders on both occasions.

York deservedly drew level when Tweddle hit a curling, left-footed free-kick high into the net. They forged in front after Joe Kemp broke up an attack and sent McMillan on a right-wing run with Davison sweeping the ball home first time from his cross.

Just before half-time, Barber also saw a 25-yard free-kick come crashing back from the crossbar.

The home side kicked off the second half brightly, though, hitting the bar within a minute of the restart and then adding two quick goals to take the lead.

Zac Lawrence forced a save as York pushed forward but Chester-le-Street went 5-2 up, either side of Owen Marshall having a long-range shot kept out.

Hopes of a comeback were ignited when Davison got his second goal, but they were quickly extinguished when a long-range shot made the final score 6-3.

York Schoolboy U13s came through a tough test to beat Sheffield 2-1 with Joe Crosby grabbing the winning goal two minutes from time after captain Lucas Wilson had earlier opened the scoring.

The Minstermites started the game positively with Ollie Smith having a shot cleared off the line and Crosby forcing a fine save after good work by Manni De Nobriga down the right before Wilson made the breakthrough when he poked home from a Rob Guilfoyle corner.

The best move of the first half came on 25 minutes with Nick Hutton, Robbie Simpson and Guilfoyle exchanging passes only for York to hit a post.

Sheffield levelled in the second half but despite several chances, could not find a way past man-of-the-match Pat Randall, who produced a string of excellent saves to keep York in the game.

Late on, York midfielders Charlie Ward, Danny Allinson and Dom Jackson started to take control and the constant work of wide-men Charlie King and Lucas Frankish began causing problems.

A Sheffield clearance went on to fall straight to Frankish, who played a first-time ball back over the defence for Crosby to calmly tuck the ball into the corner of the goal and settle matters.
