THE Gore brothers from York are revelling in an historic footballing hat-trick.

Jimmy Gore has followed older siblings Tom and Jacob in winning Yorkshire’s Green Un Cup with York’s Under-11 schoolboys side.

The Minster city boys won the prestigious cup last month for only the third time since 1966 - and each of the winning teams in the last 48 years have featured a Gore.

In 2005, Jacob, now 20, played in the team which beat Sheffield 2-1 and three years later Tom, now 17, was in the side which trounced Barnsley 6-0.

Their efforts were this year emulated by Jimmy, who played in the heart of the midfield as York beat Hull 5-2 in the final at Tadcaster Albion’s 2Inspire Park.

Dad Matt, the current U11s manager, said: “We weren’t actually aware that we had three champions in the family until after the game when I picked up the cup to look at the previous winners.

“It was only then that I started to realise that the two previous wins were when Jacob and Tom played, so I did a bit of research on the internet and that confirmed it.

“It’s been great to experience the Green Un Cup with all three of my lads, but it’s been even more amazing for all three of them to win it – particularly when York have only won it on these three occasions.

“The whole team did exceptionally well, and this is a superb way of topping off another great season.”
