THORPE United Under-15s put one hand on the Garforth Junior Football League division one championship trophy with a 2-1 win over second-placed Horsforth St Margarets.
United are seven points clear of Horsforth having played two games more, and the top two will clash again in Thorpe’s final game of the campaign next month.
The home side took the lead when Tim Heaton played a good ball out of defence to set Corey Littlefield free. He played in Richard Buckthorpe, who touched the ball past the Horsforth keeper.
A well delivered Horsforth free-kick was headed beyond keeper Alex Ward to draw the visitors level.
One moment of class in the second half came when James Arnold played a perfect through ball for Littlefield to latch onto. The striker crossed for Buckthorpe and his shot was pushed into the path of Shaun Heselwood who scored his first goal of the season.
