YORK Schoolboys Under-11s are still in the running for a league and cup double despite missing out in the ESFA Northern Seven-a-side finals.

The Minster city boys failed to reach the semi-finals of the sevena- side tournament at Sunderland’s Academy of Light, but they can make amends today with their cup semi-final at East Riding.

The season could also end in championship glory if York win their final two league matches against Barnsley and Leeds.

In Sunderland, York were drawn in a group with Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield, Darlington and Redcar & Cleveland.

The opening game against Newcastle ended in a 2-1 defeat despite York getting off to a good start with Josh Hall feeding Will Jarvis to score.

York then drew 0-0 with Leeds before Sheffield beat them 1-0 with the aid of a deflected shot.

With York unable to qualify for the semi-finals, they were playing for pride against an unbeaten Darlington side.

Hall put York 1-0 up with a fine solo goal and Jarvis then cut the ball back across goal for Tom Eaton to make it 2-0.

Jarvis laid a third goal for Hall.

York’s final game against Redcar & Cleveland ended in a 1-0 defeat.
