A SUPERB late penalty save from debutant goalkeeper Joseph Hodge helped to earn York Schoolboys Under-11s’ footballers a 1-0 friendly win over Leeds ‘B’.
After a goalless first period, York took the lead through Will Jarvis. Leeds were awarded a penalty in the closing minutes, but Hodge capped a fine display by diving to his left and pushing the ball round a post.
In the opening stages of the game, York pressurised Leeds, with defenders Luke Jones, Declan Simpson and man of the match Tom Eaton maintaining a high line and feeding the midfield.
York attacked down the centre with Jimmy Gore and Elliot Oliver and on the flanks through Josh Hall and Alex Kemp.
The deadlock was broken when Josh Hall’s pinpoint through ball found Jarvis and he fired over the on-rushing ’keeper from 12 yards to break the deadlock in the second period.
The weather deteriorated in the third period.
