THORPE United Under-15s booked their place in the semi-finals of the Garforth Junior Football League Challenge Cup with a 3-0 win at Wakefield Jets.

Thorpe, who are top of division one after 11 games, got off to the perfect start in their pursuit of knockout glory.

From the kick off, Jordan Emery played in David Melling and he found Jamie Hardaker in space. His shot was fumbled by the Jets ’keeper and Richard Buckthorpe reacted quickest to slot home within the first few seconds.

The early setback acted as a wake-up call to the Jets and they had by far the better of the play for the rest of the half.

Alex Ward made a good save as Wakefield turned the screw.

Corey Littlefield showed good strength to get beyond his marker and crossed perfectly for the on-rushing Reese Franks, who slotted home Thorpe’s second against the run of play late in the first period.

The second half started with more Jets pressure.

However, Thorpe had chances of their own as Littlefield’s header was saved and Jamie Hardaker shot just over.

Reese Franks set-up a counter attack and his pass allowed Hardaker a sight of goal, but his shot clipped the crossbar.

Man of the match Alex Ward was quickly out of his area to clear another Jets attack, before Littlefield scored a good individual goal on the stroke of full-time to wrap up the win.
