AN ‘L’ of a show did for Stamford Bridge Under-12s in the City York of Girls’ Football League.

Hosts Bridge were beaten 6-2 by Scarborough Ladies U12s and, in particular, perishing to the predatory powers of the seasiders’ star sharp-shooter Leah Dobson.

She bagged no fewer than five goals to wrap up the points.

The first half was a close tussle reflecting the respective positions of the rivals in the U12s division.

Sixth-placed Stamford Bridge trailed at half-time, but only by the odd goal in five to their visitors who lay two places above the Bridge ranks.

But then Dobson grabbed centre stage in the second-half where a hat-trick completed her nap hand of strikes.

The scorers for Bridge were Poppy Creaser and first-half substitute Amy Lowis.

Meanwhile, third-placed Stamford Bridge were beaten 4-1 by leaders Poppleton Tigers in the U14s league.

The game was switched from Stamford Bridge’s Low Catton Road ground to Poppleton’s Millfield Lane due to a waterlogged pitch, but a strong wind made for difficult conditions.

Bridge played with the advantage of the wind in the first half and, after early pressure, they took the lead on 12 minutes when Olivia Cant brought the ball out of defence and scored from long range.

Bridge, with captain Alex Harvey orchestrating proceedings in midfield, created a string of chances but were unable to add to their lead before the break.

Wind-assisted in the second half, Poppleton pushed forward looking to get back in the game.

Bridge player-of-the-match Georgia Stanton produced several excellent saves, but Poppleton levelled from a deflection eight minutes into the half.

In a five-minute spell of pressure midway through the half, Poppleton added another two goals and they claimed a fourth late on.
