A SEASON of unprecedented success for Wheldrake Junior Football Club has led to the installation of a new trophy cabinet in the village hall.

Youngsters from the club are displaying the array of silverware bagged by their various age group teams last term.

The roll of honour includes:

• the under-16s winning their league

• the U15s winning the York FA Cup final and finishing second in their league

• the U14s securing second place in their top division

• the U12s winning their league championship

• the U11s coming second in their league

• the U10s winning their division

• the U8s claiming the Plate Trophy at the Thorpe tournament.

Club chairman Richard Dickinson said: “Wheldrake is a small village but at the heart of the community is a great junior football club.

“The teams play in some tough leagues with bigger catchment areas but our players overcame adversity with talent and determination to succeed.

“The achievements this year are a credit to the players, but also the coaches and parents.”
