Wheldrake put to flight by Stamford Bridge

DAN DURKIN scored 22, while Harry Cooper weighed in with 15 and Matthew MacFarlane 13 as Stamford Bridge had a big win over Wheldrake in their final Quality Solicitors Burn & Company U11 (IB) League zone ‘A’ game.

That win tied them on 20 points with long-time leaders Bishopthorpe and did their nett run-rate some good.

With the ball Durkin took 2-4 and MacFarlane 2-0.

Both teams are unbeaten and qualify for the play-offs but the calculators had to be brought into play to establish the first and second positions courtesy of the best nett run rate.

Still playing catch up of earlier washed-out fixtures, Malton & Old Malton travelled to Woodhouse Grange and in a close game took the zone ‘B’ plunder.

Will Schofield top-scored for Malton with 19, with solid support from M Jefferson, who scored 17 and Luke Scott with 18.

Luke Race was the best of the Woodhouse bowlers with 3-7.

Tom Burdett made 12 in the Grange reply and there were wickets for Malton’s R Chapman, who captured 2-0, S Johnson 1-6 and J Windress 1- 8.

Further points were bagged as Scott 37no and Schofield 22no, put an inexperienced Heworth bowling attack to the sword.

There were wickets for W Rowntree. R Draper and L Rawson.

But Heworth also struggled with the bat as Luke Scott, Will Fletcher, J Windress, A Biles and D Batchelor found themselves among the wickets.

R Draper top-scored for Heworth with 14 and Ethan Bradshaw made 11.

The win fired Malton into contention for a play-off place, which they then secured with a 44-run win over York ‘B’ in a winner-takes-all tussle.

Schofield again featured with 11no and 1-0 off three overs, while S Mann made 9no as did M Jefferson. Scott took 1-1 and L Jackson 1-8.

For York ‘A’ Wilkinson was the leading scorer with eight as H Hey took 2-7, C Atkin 1-9 and Sam Lonsdale 1-12.
