Champions Sheriff Hutton Bridge off to a flying start in defence of crown

REIGNING champions Sheriff Hutton Bridge got their Quality Solicitors Burn & Company Under-11 (Hardball) Cricket League division one campaign off to a winning start at Dunnington ‘A’.

The poor weather has made it a slow start to the York & District Junior Cricket Association season, but Bridge were in good form.

Issac Giannini was the top performer, scoring an unbeaten 17 and taking 2-4. He was supported by James Davidson (10no), Patrick Livingstone (1-0), Gabriel McGill (1-2) and Edward Ramsden (1-2).

Dunnington’s Harrison Mussel scored ten not out and took 1-10.

Acomb, runners-up last season, also made a winning start with a home win over York ‘A’.

Daniel Watkinson hit 15 and was supported by bowlers Charlie Brookes (2-0) and Jamie Thornton (1-6).

York’s M Scully made eight runs and took 1-2, with C Hall taking 2-2 and Charlie Atkin claiming 3-9.

Clifton Alliance and Dunnington ‘A’ fought out a close game, with Dunnington just coming out on top.

J Richardson (15no and 1-10) and Harrison Mussel (15no and 1-1) were the top performers, with H Claxton taking 2-3. Clifton’s Noah Kennedy made 12 and Jack Heartstone 13 not out, while Dan Moll took 1-12 and Barney Baker 1-5.

In division two, Sebastian Williman (13no) and Thomas Kirby (10 and 3-0) starred as Pocklington beat visitors Dunnington ‘B’, whose Charles Ford took 2-12.

In Zone ‘A’ of the U11s (Incrediball) League, Bolton Percy lost at home to Bishopthorpe.

Bish’s Matthew Sharples hit 22 not out and there was some accurate bowling from Harry Lipscombe (2-5).

William Middleton chipped in with 1-2 and Angus Bindloss 1-4. For the hosts, Cameron Orr top-scored with nine.
