Fulford School pupil Ellie Chipps will this summer be stumping her way around the country representing Yorkshire in the under-13 girls’ cricket side.

The Dunnington youngster follows in her father’s footsteps in turning out for the junior county cricket side.

Said Chipps of the trials at Headingley: “It was very nerve wrecking and I didn’t think I’d make the team. I’m really excited to play against Cheshire and Lancashire.”

The Year 8 wicketkeeper, who began playing at Dunnington CC aged seven and still turns out with the Common Road outfit, also represents all-girls side North Stainley in Harrogate. Fulford School’s head of girls’ PE, Shona Murray, said: “It’s a fantastic achievement, one Ellie deserves.”

School-mate Rosie Todd joined Chipps in the North Yorkshire team, but missed the Yorkshire trials.
