Primary focus as Andrew Gale and Katherine Brunt launch 2012 Drax Cup

YORKSHIRE captain Andrew Gale and England bowler Katherine Brunt are urging the region’s primary school cricket teams to enter the 2012 Drax Cup.

Gale and Brunt took part in a special coaching session and match practice with youngsters from current Drax Cup holders Alwoodley Primary School, in Leeds, and Snaith Primary School in Goole, to launch this year’s competition.

Brunt, the 2011 Women’s Cricketer of the Year, and Gale are both ambassadors for the Drax Cup, the biggest cricket competition for under-9s in the country.

Schools need to enter by Friday, March 23 by emailing draxcup@yorkshirecb.com or by contacting their Yorkshire Cricket Board cricket development manager.

Gale said: “I first played cricket when I was eight and the Drax Cup is a fantastic way to of introducing the game to youngsters.”

The competition begins after Easter and runs until July. Teams play in a series of round robin events to produce four area winners.

The four teams will play in the finals at Headingley on Sunday, July 8, prior to Yorkshire v Derbyshire in the Friends Provident t20 Cup.
