YOUNG cricketers from Our Lady’s Roman Catholic Primary School in Acomb, York, are the toast of the city.
The school’s cricket team were the top York side and won their league in the 14-team North Yorkshire Area finals of the Drax Cup.
That success earned them a place in the three-way final, where they finished third behind winners Seamer & Irton Community Primary School, of Scarborough, and runners-up St Wilfrid’s Catholic Primary School, of Ripon. Seamer and Irton go through to the Drax Cup final at Headingley tomorrow.
Earlier, Our Lady’s had beaten Lingfield, of Middlesbrough, Whitbybased Ruswarp and South Milford in their group. Park Grove Primary and Archbishop of York’s CE Junior played in the same group and finished fifth and third respectively.
St Paul’s CE Primary School finished equal fourth in their league.
Meanwhile, Our Lady’s are also celebrating after winning the Catenian Shields for Hi-5 netball and football.
The competition is held annually for Year 6 school children who attend the five York catholic primary schools.
