YORKSHIRE stars Andrew Gale and Richard Pyrah will be leading junior cricket coaching courses in the county this winter.

Pro Coach Yorkshire Cricket, the official coaching partner of the Yorkshire County Cricket Club founded by Tykes skipper Gale, will be running structured winter academies in York and Ryedale.

Over the winter, a number of first-team pros will return to their roots to help the next generation of up and coming talent improve their game.

Gale and Pyrah will be joined by former Yorkshire wicket keeper, now England coach, Simon Guy as they pass on their expert knowledge of the game and what it takes to turn a passion into a career.

Gale believes every child deserves the opportunity to improve, adding that there is no better time than winter do that.

“Whatever skill level you are, utilising winter effectively is key to guarantee development and ensure each player improves technically, mentally, physically and also enters the new season more confident," he said.

Manor School in York will host a course on Fridays from October 3 to November 21. Under-12s and U16s sessions will be held from 7pm to 9pm.

The second venue is Norton College, which will host sessions on Thursdays from October 9 to November 27, again with U12s and U16s groups attending from 7pm to 9pm.

The courses will cover all elements of the modern game from batting and bowling to fielding and fitness, with structured match play scenarios to help maximise development and build confidence.

In addition, Yorkshire Winter Elite academies will once again run at the Headingley Indoor Centre on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Held over 20 hours, sessions will provide players with an opportunity to train at the Headingley facilities used by those playing at the top of the game.
