YORK & District’s leading young cricketers have received a “welcome” boost.

Talented youngsters represent the area in the annual Yorkshire Junior Cricket Festival - formerly the Lord’s Taverners - at a range of age groups.

Secretary Derek Lancaster has hailed the backing of Michael Backhouse, a director of Aberdeen Enterprise Finance.

“Michael Backhouse gave us a generous donation,” said Lancaster, who coaches the York & District’s under-15s representative side.

“In these fairly austere times, it is a welcome gift as we continue to offer our best players at under-11, U13, U15 and U17 a chance to showcase their skills against their peers from other areas and leagues across the county.”

York & District U15s beat Aire- Wharfe and Wetherby before losing to Huddersfield in their Yorkshire Junior Cricket Festival fixtures.

We would like to point out that the York & District team is selected from a number of clubs - including Dunnington, Sheriff Hutton Bridge, Clifton Alliance, Easingwold and York - not just York as incorrectly reported in last week’s Park Life.
