YORK beat Ovington in the final of the York & District Junior Cricket Association Quality Solicitors Burn & Company U11 Cup at Londesborough Park, writes Matthew Graves.

Ovington won the toss and put the favourites into bat and there were early runs for York’s Tudor Maude (18) and Cameron Luck (17), with Toby Robinson taking 2-30.

The innings changed in the last few overs as Toby Search hit 28 not out to raise the York score to 119-4.

Skipper, Finn Baqai top scored with 13 but the Ovington response was always behind the run rate.

Tidy bowling from Maude (1-7) and Sam Bousefield (1-2) saw them close at 61-3.

Ovington has earlier won their rearranged semi-final against Bolton Percy.

Ovington made 59-5, with Baqai top scoring on 12 not out.

Wickets fells at the hands of Ben Gibbs (1-4), Harrison Nicholson (1-6) and Ryan Ford (1-8).

However, the ruthless bowling of Baqai and Jack Walmsley, each taking 4-2, limited the Percy batsmen to 45 all out.

The other semi-final saw York post an impressive140-2 against Malton & Old Malton, thanks to 32 not out from Maude and Sam Lonsdale’s 31 not out. Sam Yates took 2-18.

Judge, with 19, was Malton’s top scorer, but the bowling of Charlie Moseley (2-5) and Bousefield (2-2) restricted the response to 56-6.

Ovington ended their league season with a home win over Dunnington ‘A’ in the Quality Solicitors Burn & Company U11 Championship division one.

Jacob Lamb made eight not out and took 1-7, while Oscar March took 1-7 and Ned Samuels returned figures of 1-9.

For Dunnington, James Walker and Jack Wilson top scored with 11 apiece, while tight bowling from Ed Millington (1-1), James Crichton (1-5) and Max Wilson (1-7) limited Ovington, but their efforts were in vain.

A win at Pocklington enabled Malton & Old Malton to finish above their hosts in the league table.

E Smith made 13 and took 5-2.

There were also wickets for D Hill (3-14) and Judge (2-9).

For Pocklington, Ted Baty took 2-6 and H Forman made ten.

In the Quality Solicitors Burn & Company U9 Development League zone ‘D’, Yapham have been playing catch up and have moved into second place in the table.

York were victims to Yapham’s run of good form, as they lost their unbeaten record to a fine performance of 39 not out from Will Jones.
