YORK triumphed over neighbours Clifton Alliance at Malton & Old Malton to win the Hirepoint Plant & Tool Hire Under-13s plate.

York, having lost the toss and been put into bat, started brightly until a slower ball from Joe Kilvington did for Alex Lilley (17).

Ben Wilkinson then batted intelligently before he retired with 31 not out.

Although the score ticked over, it did not accelerate in the middle of the innings.

The game was further swung in Alliance’s favour when skipper Owen Marshall brought himself on to bowl and took 1-1 from his two overs. However, 32 not out from Andrew Hyams carried York to a competitive score of 118-6.

Clifton’s response got off to a flying start with skipper Marshall hitting 15 and Kilvington batting superbly to make 31 retired.

L Robinson (18) and J Doughty (16) then continued the momentum and gave Clifton a great chance to win the game as they moved the score onto 100.

However, three wickets from Matthew Scurry in his second spell, giving him figures of 3-14, and a great performance from Charlie Atkin, who took 3-10, saw Alliance all out for 102.

The trophy and medals were presented by Paul Wilkinson, chairman of the York & District Junior Cricket Association.

Yapham have won the Hirepoint Plant & Tool Hire U13 Development League, finishing one point clear of Hemingbrough and Bishopthorpe.
