HEWORTH won the York Vale Cricket League Junior Sixes competition at Pocklington.
They beat Ovington in the final of the under-16 tournament, which is in its second year.
The Elmpark Way boys hit 71 in their five overs despite Ovington’s Brad Wood taking 3-7 in his one over. Ovington’s response was limited to 41 with only opener Wood (20 ret) showing any defiance against a cup-winning bowling performance from Heworth.
The finalists had emerged joint leaders of the group games after five teams played each other once. Both won three and lost one game, but Ovington lost fewer wickets to win the group.
In the first semi-final, Ovington limited holders Welton & Brough to 49, then powered their way to a comfortable victory thanks to a superb opening partnership by Matty Roberts and Harry Buckley, who reached their personal batting retirement target with 20 and 21 respectively.
Tom Brotton (23 ret) and Harry Moorcroft (20 ret) enabled Heworth to post 69 in the second semi against Yapham. In reply, only Jack Foster (20 ret) remained defiant as Yapham were shot out for 46.
League chairman Shane Hargrave, presented the trophy to the Heworth captain Harry Moorcroft.
