The Autumn term at Queen Margaret’s School has been graced by a run of sporting successes.

Across the board the standard of hockey, lacrosse and netball has been high, with first-class performances from individuals and teams at the Escrick-based school.

In lacrosse, Queen Margaret’s dominated the North Schools’ tournament with both the first and second teams beating their opponents.

The firsts also brought hosts Leeds University to their knees with a 17-5 triumph.

So it was little surprise to have no fewer than 14 Queen Margaret’s students selected to play for the Under-15 Yorkshire lacrosse ‘A’ and ‘B’ squads.

Success has been prevalent on the hockey pitch led by the U16s through to the final of the North Schools’ hockey tournament, prompting director of sport, Anne Davies, to praise “an excellent achievement for such a young side. I have high hopes for the tournament and for future competitions”.

The U13s beat Pocklington School 7-1 and the U13 ‘A’-ranks toppling Scarborough College 13-2.

Meanwhile, the U14s ‘A’-team beat Hull Collegiate School 3-1 and there was a convincing 7-1 win for the U15s over York’s St Peter’s School.

Queen Margaret’s have achieved successes both locally and nationally on the netball courts.

The senior team won the York and District Tournament, going on to represent York and District in the county round.

In the York and District national schools’ competition, the U14s ‘A’-team came a respectable fourth winning four of their matches.

The same squad also beat Queen Ethelburga’s School 19-9, while the U12s ‘A’-team won their encounter 11-0.

There was another emphatic triumph for the U16s side who beat Bradford Grammar School, a base for strong netball teams, 32-4.

And just for good measure, the school’s swimming squad also remains undefeated this term.
