MORE than 200 youngsters showed off their talent at a Festival Of Sport in York.

Pupils from six primary schools took part in taster sessions at Dunnington Sports Club, playing bowls, tennis, football, squash and cricket.

Dunnington Primary School were joined by Naburn, Fishergate, Elvington, St Oswald’s and Wheldrake at the Festival, organised by the Sports Club and City of York Council as part of the School-Club Link Partnership.

The aim was to give the youngsters a taste of a range of sports in the hope that they join a club and take part on a regular basis.

Nick Roberts, the new Dunnington Sports Club manager, said: “The Festival went very, very well.

“We were lucky with the weather, which definitely helped.

“The day was very well organised and the feedback from the schools and kids was very good.

“All the children tried four sports and we hope, after the taster sessions, they will follow that up by coming back and trying the sports they enjoyed.”

Roberts said the plan was to hold further taster sessions, while summer sports camps are also on the agenda for the school holidays.
