YORK Schoolboy Under-11s closed out their league programme in fine style with a 4-2 home victory against Hull.

The win overturned York’s defeat to the same opposition in the semi-finals of the Yorkshire Cup a fortnight earlier.

York started very strongly and Elliot Heath rattled in a fifth-minute goal from six yards out after good work from Harry Tinker.

Hull almost immediately bounced back when their left winger struck a sweet shot from 20 yards, which gave keeper Todd Edgar no chance.

Tinker grabbed a crucial second goal after a brave but fair challenge on the Hull keeper resulted in the ball squirming into the net.

With half-time approaching, Isaac Meehan whipped in a fine corner with enough pace to deceive the Hull defender on the line and his attempted clearance went in.

A second-half Hull onslaught was repelled by Dan Tingle, Meehan and George Turbine, but the visitors eventually scored from 30 yards with six minutes remaining.

With only a minute of normal time to go, Will Hollings won a crunching tackle in midfield and released a fine pass to Elliot Heath, who sprinted on to the pass, rounded the Hull keeper and rolled the ball into the net.

York U12s drew 2-2 at East Riding in their final league game.

The home side opened the scoring with a counter-attack in the second minute, but York responded well and equalised when East Riding failed to clear a corner by Elliot Oliver and Luke Jones smashed the ball in.

Two minutes into the second half, York took the lead when Leo Potts laid the ball back to Liam White and he jinked through three defenders on the edge of the area before firing a left-foot shot past the keeper.

East Riding were awarded a dubious penalty shortly afterwards when a forward went down in the area as Jones shepherded the ball back to keeper Joseph Hodge.

Hodge got a hand to the spot-kick but the ball came back off the underside of the crossbar and across the line.

The York man of the match was White.
