YORK City Baths Club are celebrating success at the annual Paw Swimwear Yorkshire SA Championships.

The championship was held over four consecutive weekends, with the sprint competitions at Ponds Forge in Sheffield being followed by the team events and long course contests at the John Charles Centre for Sport in Leeds.

In the sprints, 11-year-old Jason Robson is a double county champion after winning gold in the 50 metre freestyle and 50m butterfly, while Annie Johnston, 17, won the 50m breaststroke.

Robson added a silver medal and a bronze medal to his haul, while Annie took bronze in the 50m butterfly.

Sam Russell, 14, won a silver medal in the 50m breaststroke and Ellen Suddes won bronze in the 50m breaststroke.

The other finalists were Freya Beck, Katarina Bonner, Mollie-Jo Garratt, Beth Gibbons, Jacob Hardisty, Megan Kirkman, Samuel Pickup, Kimberley Thompson and Neola Thorpe.

Ten of the York City Baths Club teams reached finals, with the women’s open age group freestyle team earning a bronze medal.

In the longer events, Robson won the 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley, while Johnston claimed the 200m IM title.

Robson also gained three silver medals, in the 100m backstroke, 200m breaststroke and 200m butterfly, and four bronze medals, in the 100m breaststroke, 100m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 1,500m freestyle.

Johnston gained two silver medals, in the 100m and 200m breaststroke, and came fifth in the 100m butterfly, sixth in the 200m butterfly and eighth in the 100m freestyle.

Bonner, 15, won three silver medals, in the 800m freestyle, 200m butterfly and 200m IM, and bronze medals in the 100m butterfly and 200m backstroke.

Suddes claimed bronze in the 200m breaststroke.

Samuel Pickup, ten, achieved a silver medal in the 400m freestyle and a bronze in 200m butterfly, plus a 100 per cent personal best record.

Russell took part in nine events, reaching six finals.
